Chelmsford Town-Wide Cleanup

April 23, 2011

"Our goal is a clean town"

When? The next town cleanup will take place April 23, 2011.  You can pick up trash and recyclables at any time that is convenient for you or your group.
Where? We will be cleaning throughout Chelmsford including our roads, sidewalks, parks and trails. Most people will clean the roads closest to their homes.
Supplies?

Trash bags are available at the Recycling and Solid Waste office, which is open Monday-Friday from 9am to noon.

How? When you pick up trash, you can put the bags out along with your own household garbage. Please do your best to recycle clean plastic, aluminum and paper in your home recycling bin.

- Questions and Answers -

Q: I'm busy on the date of the cleanup.  Can I still help?

A: Absolutely!  Our goal is a clean town.  You can pick up litter the day before or the day after.  You can pick up litter at a time that's convenient for you.

Q: Do you have a flyer I can post in my office?

A: Yes!  http://www.chelmsfordrecycles.com/downloads/2010-towncleanup.pdf

Q: Can I put the full bags from the town cleanup to the curb with my other trash, even if it is over the trash limit?

A: The orange town cleanup bags are exempt from the town trash limit. If you are using your own (not orange) trash bags and you will be over the limit because of the litter clean up bags, you can either 1) call the Recycling Office three days before your trash day to arrange for the hauler to pick up the extra trash, or 2) consider taking the bags to the dumpster located behind the Town Offices the weekend of April 23rd.

Q: What if I find hypodermic needles, scalpels or other sharps in the area I am cleaning?

A: Please do NOT touch any sharps. Notify the Recycling and Waste Management office at 978-250-5203 with the location of the sharps.

Q: What should I recycle?

A: Much of the trash will be too dirty or damaged for recycling, but many bottles and cans are in perfect condition.  Please try to recycle when it makes sense.

Q: What should I do if I have questions about the cleanup for 2011?

A: Send your questions to davisong@comcast.net
